This book did a lot to help me better understand the difference between “data” and “drama” as espoused in the daily news cycle. The world’s a far better place than we tend to realize; Dr. Rosling’s work is excellent and now being carried on by his children. I consider myself having acquired a new life skill by way of reading this book.
On Desperate Ground
I first heard about the Chosin Reservoir on a CBS Sunday Morning special about the incredible bravery of our Marines at the start of the Korean War. This book goes into the detail behind what happened and is really well written by author Hampton Sides. Great for anyone who has an appreciation or interest in military history
